NETAJI LIBRARY & SPORTS CLUB
Netaji Library & Sports Club in Thoothoor, also known as NLT was started in the year 1957 at the coastal village of Thoothoor. NLT was the idea of a few visionary youths of Thoothoor who wished to bring the youths together and help them grow while also contributing to the society where they live in. Their choice of name 'Netaji' itself speaks volumes about the depth and breadth of their vision for society.
NLT which started its journey as a simple newspaper reading room has evolved as a giant organisation today with district level reputation as a library and state level recognition as a football club. Yes, NLT is a reputed library in Kanyakumari district. The wast collections of newspapers and magazines in 3 languages make NLT very unique. This library is managed by a team of quality people selected by the general body of the NLT members.
Netaji Library is focused not only on academic activities but also on developing sports and arts, especially football. As a result, Thoothoor could generate many state-level footballers and a few national-level footballers over the last several decades. Today, every football aspirants in Tamilnadu recognises Thoothoor as a Football Village of Tamilnadu.
With such unbeatable achievements and services, NLT is recognised as a symbol of pride for people in Thoothoor region.
Thoothoor Netaji Sports Academy (TNSA) was inaugurated on 2nd October 2020, as a sub organisation of NLT with a constructive focus on sports. As a first step of the newly established sports academy, 114 young football players have been selected for professional training in 3 categories such as under 16, under 14, and under 10.
NLT conducts One day Seven's Football Tournament every year since 1991. Various leading teams from the national level are participating in this tournament from the beginning and the regional importance of the tournament is increasing every year. This tournament is an annual festival for football lovers and a golden platform for the players in the region.
NLT has established 24/7 Automated Netaji Hubs to provide Purified Drinking Water and Mobile Charging Terminal to the people free of cost. Currently, this facility is available in four important locations in Thoothoor. Power and Water for the Hub are supplied by NLT Well Wishers.
NLT is a leader in Blood Donation in the district since 1990. Members of NLT are donating blood to direct beneficiaries whenever an emergency occurs, and also to blood banks by conducting blood donation camps and visiting blood banks. NLT members have received collector's awards in the past for the superior contributions to this humanity act.
NLT conducts Sports and Arts events during festival seasons and vacations such as Independence Day, Republic day, Netaji day, Christmas, and Easter days.
NLT undertakes many social activities such as Planting saplings & Trees, Eco-friendly waiting shed, Street Sign Board, and Seeking Government attention for people's welfare needs.
NLT's Reading Room is open to all. 5 Tamil daily newspapers, 2 Malayalam daily newspapers, 3 English daily newspapers, and more than 30 Magazines make this library very rich in content as a public library.
